World Gourmet Festival arrives in Bangkok

Some of the best food in the world is to be offered in Bangkok at the World Gourmet Festival.

People with a love for fine food could be planning to take flights to Bangkok soon in order to attend the World Gourmet Festival.

Taking place at the Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok, the event is set to begin on September 5th 2011 and will run for one week, with some of the world's best chefs and culinary experts attending to show off their skills, the Bangkok Post reported.

Among the chefs attending include the Michelin-starred Anthony Demetre of Wild Honey in London and Ivo Adam, based at Seven in Ascona, Switzerland.

"There are a lot of Thai diners who travel the world in order to try new foods and experience different dining options ... and now it's something they want to see in their home country," said Malcolm Omond, director of food and beverage at the hotel.

Bangkok named best city in the world

Bangkok has been recommended as the best international city for holidaymakers.

Bangkok has been awarded the coveted title of best city in the world, an accolade that could inspire holidaymakers to book flights to Thailand.

Readers of Travel + Leisure voted for the capital in the magazine's World's Best Awards 2011, suggesting there is no better place to visit than the Thai metropolis.

Bangkok saw off competition from famous destinations such as Florence and Rome in Italy, Istanbul in Turkey and New York City to claim the top prize, which it received for the second consecutive year.

Nancy Novogrod, editor in chief of Travel + Leisure, said: "It's clear that remote and exotic destinations - places that convey a sense of authenticity and adventure - are ruling the day once again."
