How I made 90,000g from one kill - Extreme gold making!

When it comes to mobs by their value, in my opinion the most valuable monster to kill would be the rare seahorse Poseidus in Vashj'ir. Since 4.1 he drops the underwater mount, one random world epic, a profession recipe and pure gold.

The best part is they are all BOE! That means lots of gold for you, should you be lucky enough to bump into him. I've seen the mount go for about 50-90k, and depending on the epic you can get even 30k. The random profession recipe may also be valuable, but usually it's just a green jewelcrafting recipe worth no more than a few hundred max. Personally I've found Poseidus only once and the loot was worth about 90k for me.

His respawn time is currently unknown, and first spawn was seen no sooner than 72 hours after server maintenance, so relying entirely on this method to make gold may be a bad idea. It's wise to park an alt near it's spawn points and check them out from time to time.

Here's the recorded spawn points according to wowhead

And if you haven't been hunting rare monsters before, check out some of the other rare monster hunt methods. There's lots of useful info on how to make sure you won't miss a rare when you run into one.

Thanks for the lootshot, einsteiin!

Farming gold in Blasted Lands

You may have noticed that especially rare monsters in Blasted Lands drop unique loot, called Imperfect Draenethyst Fragments and Flawless Draenethyst Spheres. These are turned in to a quest giver who will give you a loot bag in turn. Depending on the quality of the returned item, you will either receive a Emerald Encrusted Chest (For Spheres) or a Kum'isha's Junk (For Fragments).

Junk bags contain only greenies, but Emerald Encrusted Chests will contain a greenie and a blue quality item. Sometimes even epics! They are all BOE so you can make some nice gold if you're lucky and get a rare profession recipe or a cool looking epic.

Most of the greenies disenchant into Illusion Dusts and Greater Eternal Essences which are quite valuable usually. Some of them DE into Dream Dusts instead which are worthless and way too easy to obtain, so it's wiser to AH the items instead. To find out what item DE into what, use an addon like Enchantrix.

I can has my loot bags nao?

Here you can find a map that shows all rare monster locations in Blasted Lands so you can easily pay a visit to them all. Some of them like to patrol around the skull, so circle around a bit if nothing is there. Some of them are found inside caves or flying above you so pay attention!

Once you are familiar with the spawn points, you can get even 14 spheres in less than 10 minutes!

Rares are easy to spot for a few different reasons. They either look different than the other mobs in the area or have a unique name. The silver dragon portrait may also give a hint! 8)

Most rares here have a spawn timer of about 6-12 hours. To make sure you're not wasting time, check these spots early in the morning. It's a lot harder to find rares during peak hours!

Once you have fragments or spheres, you can either sell them in the AH or try your luck and return them to the quest NPC called Kum'isha the Collector (48,31)

I usually sell the Spheres for about 100g, blue items for 100-300g, rare recipes 4000-15000g and greenies for 15g. Some items are worthless though, but there's always a buyer if you reduce the price enough!

ProTip: Do this with a level 55+ toon to make use of the exp rewards rares give. It's like completing a quest!

Preparing for patch 4.1 - Huge opportunity incoming!

Patch 4.1 will make some rare spawns in Cataclysm zones more worthwhile to kill. This will be an opportunity you should not miss! For example, all rare elites will now drop BOE epics instead of BOE rares which should sell for 10k easily each, if you're lucky enough to win one!

But the main rare monster  you should note is Poseidus, which will drop an epic underwater mount (Reins of Poseidus) that binds when used! That means you can sell it to other players. Expect to get even 30,000 gold for it, assuming Poseidus stays as rare as it is currently. He can be soloed easily, as he's only level 81 non-elite.

The day before the patch goes live, you should park your toon where Poseidus spawns and start camping it right away once it goes live! To see it's spawn points, click on the name!

Other rare elites that will drop BOE epics:
- Mobus
- Garr
- Xariona
- Julak-Doom

Do note that 4.1 is still in PTR and it's highly likely that the reins will become BOP before 4.1 hits live realms!

Make lots of gold farming rare monsters

There's another great way to make lots of wow gold and it can be combined with the previous method (Treasure hunting)!

It's called Rare monster hunt!

This is very simple, just download the following addons:
_NPCscan
_NPCscan.Overlay

This addon will pop an alert when a rare monster is nearby so you don't have to create a targeting macro and spam that. If you download the overlay too, all TBC, Wotlk and Cata rare spawn points will be shown on your map so you can easily see where a rare might be found. It's always worth it to check them when you're in the zone.

Rare loot is rare, so there is no point asking for less than 1000 gold for a piece of equipment unless someone is undercutting you. For example, I've been able to sell Armagedillo's Tail for 2500-3000 gold everytime, even though even Obsidium Executioner is better, yet a LOT cheaper! (Don't tell anyone!) :O

Note: Wotlk rare loot is harder to sell, so there is little point farming Northrend rares, except those in starting areas. Some TBC and Classic items however are very valuable!
