Mistakes Happen....Prospecting Cataclysm Ore Droprates

Here we go!

I wrote yesterday's post thinking I would be able to explain some intel that I have accumulated over the years. Damn, that was a mistake, huh? A shortsided mind and a post written at four in the morning, trying to work in two email'ers questions....Now's the time to clear some information up....

I stated that Elementium Ore would "proc" an Inferno Ruby every 1.5 stacks. That was a complete and utter typo. What I meant was Pyrite Ore, as over mass prospecting, I averaged near 4 blues per stack, so with RNG on your side, a stack and a half of Pyrite would yield 6 blues, or one of each (with quantity). Now some might say that is a jump, but it's an accurate statement, at least quite a bit more accurate than my Elementium numbers from yesterday.....

Now the Elementium Ore. Fex's numbers (in their comment) are similar to mine in that it's around 1 Inferno (or any given blue) per 4.5 stacks, as you can see below.

Want the full monte with the prospecting of Cata Ore? Let's go with a "per" stack ratio below:

----------------------------------------------------------

 Obsidium Ore:

"Greens" 5.8 per stack
Carnelian - .92
Zephyrite - .94
Jasper .96
Hessonite .99
Nightstone 1.1
Alicite .95

"Blues" - .9 per stack
Inferno Ruby .14
Dream Emerald .16
Ember Topaz .16
Demonseye .18
Ocean Sapphire .16
AmberJewel .16

If you go with Random numbers, you can figure one "blue" per stack (.9), and 6 "greens" (5.8) per stack prospected.

----------------------------------------------------------

Elementium Ore:

"Greens" 4.5 per stack
Jasper .78
Alicite .72

"Blues" 1.8 per stack

If you go with Random numbers, you can figure 2 "blues" per stack (1.8), and 5 "greens" (4.5) per stack prospected.

----------------------------------------------------------

Pyrite Ore:

Volatile Earth 3.7 per stack *Edit- This hasn't been updated since 4.1- I am prospecting a bank tab (98 stacks) of Pyrite ATM and will update in about 15 minutes...

"Greens" 6.6 per stack

"Blues" 3.9 per stack

If you go with Random numbers, you can figure 4 "blues" per stack (3.9), and 6 "greens" (6.6) per stack prospected. Oh, and 3ish Earths....

----------------------------------------------------------

Hope this clears up any misconceptions that are floating out there on "proc" rates for prospecting, and above all, have a nice day! =)

4.1.0 - Whatcha Need to Know.

Alto rhymes? Don't quit your day job...

Finally. 4.1.0. It's here. Was it worth the wait? I am still wondering. There have been quite a few changes, and others that, although expected, haven't hit home just yet.

Of course there is the Obsidium Shuffle, or Obsidium Le Soufflet as we might as well call it. The vendor prices took a significant loss, 9g to 5g. So what we knew as a 45g floor is now a 30g baseline.

Those that read and keep tract of my blog know that I follow my 6/36 rule. If your Hypnotic Dust is 6g, and your Greater Celestial Essence is 36g, you are sitting on a near "break even" profit with purchasing the ore at 50g per stack (that includes the price of the Jeweler's Settings). So invest accordingly.

Did you go and get your Panther Cub yet? There is a bit of a questline in STV (Some good will come is the name of it) that allows you to get a nice little companion pet, make sure you take some time and visit "down south". Who doesn't like questing? Ok, you got me. This guy. But for a pet, I am down.

Speaking of pets, did you buy your Winterspring Cub yet? The "pet" vendor in Everlook, Michelle DeRum, sells one of these cute little pets for 50g. Check your AH, and getcha some sales!

Did you all take my advice? All of my previous 4.1 posts are bearing nature right now:

"Blue Gems" and the Upcoming Patch 4.1.0

Archaelogy Updates and AH Tank Sales

Yeah, Alto is posting on the Obsidium Shuffle

4.1.0 Jewelcrafting Recipe: The Punisher's Band

If you haven't checked them out, click away. Some good reads covering what we are running into now. Oh, and don't forget the 4.1 Rare Mobs with the "better" gear droprates. Who needs an addon when you have Alto to find em for you? Shh. Don't answer that...

The 4.1.0 Rare Mob List/Locations/Screenies

Alto! What about the rares? Did you get your drop? Yeah, you all are gonna hate me for this, but I didn't even get out to hit up Poseidus for the mount....

You want a few more hits on 4.1.0? Okay. Here's a few other things I am doing:

With the “Call to Arms” in full swing (basically for Tanks and Priests), you will see the flasks and pots fly off the AH. Don’t forget your buff food as well.

Keep an eye on your “cut” blue gems. These will be a hot seller for some time. Depending on your server, you will see and influx of Inferno Rubies, Demonseye and Ember Topaz selling in quantities. Make sure you have them posted, as if they sit in your bags or bank, so will your gold.

Keep those pets up in the AH. There are added Achievements in this patch, and folks will be looking for the more “rare” companions. This is where you come in. Whether they are old school Lil’ Smoky or the newer Personal World Destroyer, get em up to sell!

With the new iLvl “recruitment” for the ZA and ZG, folks will still be needing your crafted PvP gear. Now the sales aren’t gonna make you a millionaire, they will supply you with some income for the near future.

Check out your prices on enchants. With the new gear comes the need for Enchants. Make sure that you utilize your “old school” Wrath enchants, as they will continue to have a need and a want at your local auction house.

If you read around the blogsosphere lately, you might know I am in the middle of a few projects here and there....I have been working on getting my .com going (sneak peek here on my guide page), just updated a great guide for 20K (as well as my own) and countless other things behind the scenes (you will hear about them soon enough!). Speaking of Alto's Guide, did you get your Achievement?

Yeah, Alto is Posting On The Obsidium Shuffle....

This is great. Really. I am glad to see this finially happened. This is what I enjoy in AH PvP. Everyone freaks out that their niche is now dead. Well, lets just say "in the hospital", not really "toe-tagged" yet. Situations like this is what seperates the men from the boys in our little PvP...

My biggest overall gold profits come from Patches/Hotfixes. And this is (and will be) one of them. While other bloggers are freaking out about the shuffle being over, I am thinking what I can do to make this a positive....

For those that are freaking out:

There is still some time to get your vendor on, and also time to find a new niche, because the "vendoring" Obsidium Shuffle is soon to be dead. Six feet under. But like a cat, the Obsidium Shuffle has nine lives. There are plenty more options to roll with....crafting, d/e'ing, selling the dust and essences and blue procs is the first that comes to mind. Making bars, selling the daily uncuts, and crafting Shadowspirits are viable sas well. See? You aren't losing the shuffle per se, but you just lost a little part of it.

A few questions and answers for ya:

"What am I going to do to make gold now?"
- If you ask this, you haven't read my blog. Go back and look at other money making niche markets. If you are lazy, then the gold game isn't for you. Do your homework, find out what profs you have, and read my previous posts, especially on diversification.....

"What am I going to do with all my stockpile?"
- Major patches don't hit till Tuesdays (for US) and Wednesdays for EU. Play it like normal till then (if you are deciding to vendor). You will want to keep stock on the daily uncuts (Zephyrite, Nightstone, and Jasper). I have restocked my Shadowspirit Diamonds (for the upcoming new gear slots) and my "blue" uncuts as well.

"The shuffle was my main source of income"
- Diversify. Feel out other markets (blacksmithing/leatherworking pvp sets, glyphs, pots/elixirs). Once again, check out some old posts and keep updated with the new ones. Subscribe to my RSS feed so my posts are at your fingertips.
This one has been a complaint for some time....

"The cost to post my daily gems is too high if they don't sell"
- Now you don't have to worry, as the AH factors in the "vendor" price. Look forward to seeing more competion on the daily Jewelcrafting uncuts in the AH (Zephyrite, Nightstone, and Jasper) on their respective "daily" days.

Enough on this topic, and here is what you read this post for:

Do you want to know my best advice? Don't leave the shuffle. It's not as bad as everyone thinks. Due to MMOChampion/Wowhead/Battle.net and others mentioning this, alot of folks are going to flat out stop doing the shuffle. So it's not profitable to vendor after 4.1. The other 8 lives [in the shuffle] will be (server dependant, please check your prices before jumping in too quickly- I will post after 4.1 hits on how-to's).
