Are you Insane Alto? Instant Respawns for Rep Grinding...

Hey folks!

I got an email a few days back stating that there is an instant respawn location near the Gurubashi Arena, so I decided to check it out (thanks Gillian!). They are level 30'ish mobs, they are tightly placed, and they basically have an instant spawn rate.

A video? Okay. I am still learning about vid's, so bear with me. No sound, no special effects, and of course, I didn't add an ending. So it's very, very generic. But it's a video, right? =)

Mobs:
Bloodsail Warlock
Bloodsail Hooch-Hound
Bloodsail Swashbuckler

Reputation:
Ratchet
Gadgetan
Everlook

Loot:
*Possible Zone Drop: Parrot Cage: Hyacinth Macaw (Epic Pet)
*Possible Zone Drop: Razzashi Hatchling (Rare Pet)

Now before you start freaking out about why to farm here when you will only make around 30-40g per hour on drops, remember, this is basically a great spot for farming rep, if only for the Insane in the Membrane achievement (cool title, btw, I am almost there...).

Anyways, we are soon upon 4.2, so reminding you to get your questline finished in Mt. Hyjal, get your stockpiling if you feel the need, and get ready to spend around 30 days worth of "dailies" to get your rep, your gear, and your recipies in Firelands. Are you ready?

4.0.6 Update: Tiny Treasure Chest Droprate

I have some new droprate information for you all since the patch and recent hotfixes, as I am sure that you have been wondering if it's worth spending 250g on a Potion of Treasure Finding or not. I went to my time honored mob spot (Hyjal) and I timed an hour (ok, 1 sec short on my last loot) and here are the results:

122g 54s 29c: Gold Looted
52g 78s 40c : Random Greys, vendored
85g 38s 83c : (10) Random Greens, vendored
356g : Kilt of Elemental Mending (only blue looted- AH price)
396g : 18 Volatile Fire
96g : 32 Embersilk Cloth
77 Lovely Charms

12 Tiny Treasure Chests:
225g : (75) Embersilk Cloth
24g : (2) Pyrite Ore
28g : (7) Elementium Ore
72g : (3) Volatile Water
198g : (9) Volatile Fire
44g : (4) Volatile Life
90g : (6) Volatile Earth
27g : (1) Volatile Air

Total Gold= 1816'ish
Minus 150g for Potion= 1666g

The 12 Tiny Treasure Chests more than covered the "average" cost of the Potion on the AH, so I believe that it is still viable to use for solo mob farming. Obviously, you can factor in the numbers to make them better or worse by crafting items, fluctuating AH prices, AH fees, etc. It does seem that the "patch change" to the chests have no significant difference from before.

And as an update, I received some in game mail, I seemed to have sold a 5K card to one happy customer! Have you sold one? Have you got one? Are the cards even selling anymore on your server?

Another Farming "Quick Spawn" in Hyjal- We are Talking Volatile Air

Hey all! I hope you had a chance to listen to JMTCs Vent this evening, there was some great information tossed around, and I am sure that Mageshadow is going to be putting out some great content from it.

Anyone that stuck around long enough won't soon forget the "Staying Alive" story. Wow. And then we found out the gold hero of the night is not only a "guru of gold", but also parlays as an amateur doctor. And has 5 Black Belts. And met Hayden Panetiere (sp). Two hero's, one night. Crazy. Anyways, back to my post....

Hyjal Again? What's up with that, Alto? There's gold in them thar hills!

The farm can be interesting here, as there are multiple reasons for competing in the area. Questing (Sweeping the Shelf),  Achievements Loremaster, and the random farmer/herbie/miner. You name it, they run through here. But if you are in the mood to do some solo farming, and my #1 Hyjal is busy, take a flight over yonder on the map and play around here a bit. Decent cloth drops, decent spawns (mainly due to questing in the "fresh" 80 zone), very low health mobs, and did I mention the Volatile Airs?

The Howling Riftdweller is what we will be focusing on. There are other mobs in the area, and if you feel the need, by all means go ahead and knock them out. I farmed this area quite a bit on my rogue, and have gotten many a Flame Scarred Junkbox from the Twilight Stormcallers in the area, but this location is a #2 farm compared to my other Hyjal spot that I posted about recently. The Riftdwellers drop a decent amount of Volatile Air, on an hour farm, I received 26 of them tonight, and I usually end up with around 120ish kills per hour (easy math there, my SnD refreshes up to the 30sec timer after a mob kill- same with Rejuv), I figure that wowhead's analysis is not so accurate, with a 9% rate drop of the Airs at a 1-2 per drop. I found that I was getting near a 15% droprate, and had two 3 Air drops. Go figure....Maybe luck was on my side......

Friday's Farmings- Update with Drops and GPH from Guest Post at JMTC

Friday's Farmings, Hump Day Herbing, Mining Mondays. Hmmm. That might work. Good idea? Let me know what you think....Now for the post:

This last week, I was fortunate enough to be asked for a guest posting at Just My Two Copper, and I wrote about a farming spot that I enjoy visiting since Cata. You can view my post here. I had an hour to kill last night, so I hit the area again, chugging a Potion of Treasure Finding before the start of my farm.

 The results?

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
60 minutes, 3 sec playtime (had to finish off the last mob)
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Total "Liquid" Gold Looted: 186g 63s 21c
---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---
Total Armor/Weapon Greys: 18
Scavenged Animal Parts: 7
Ruined Embersilk Scraps: 18
Shimmering Shards: 16
Crackling Crystals: 67

Total Vendor: 96g75s14c
---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---
12 Greens Vendored: 123g70s34c

Now before you hate on this part, I used the vendor price for the fact that not everyone can D/E, not everyone can wait to sell in the AH. Obviously, if you use either option, your GPH (gold per hour) will go up significantly.

---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---
Volatile Fire: 12 @ 25g= 300g
---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---
Embersilk Cloth: 44 @ 4g= 176g
---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---
15 Tiny Treasure Chests: They contained:

65g20s45c in cold hard cash

Embersilk Cloth: 85 @ 4g= 340g
Volatile Earth: 4 @ 18g= 72g
Volatile Life: 9 @ 8g= 72g
Volatile Water: 5 @ 22g= 110g
---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---   ---

Ok. Total numbers on this spot aren't crazy. 1547g for a total. Take out the 150g for the Potion, and you are looking at just shy of 1500g per hour. Keep in mind that these are level 80-83 mobs, and they are quick respawns. Herbing and Mining are alot higher per hour atm, but those that do not have the profs, or enjoy farming mobs, this is a very good location for you. This time, I did not get any great drops (i.e. blues or epix) and that marks the first time I did not get one within the hour (with around 10 times farming this spot). If you are using a rogue, you will gain $$ as well through pickpocketing Flame Scarred Junkboxes as well.

Do you have a favorite spot that you want to share? Are you interested in a guest post on my blog? Shoot me an email anytime: altosgoldishadvice@gmail.com

What Do Tuesdays Mean to You? Are You Prepared?

So what do you do to get prepared for Tuesday Patch/Hotfix day? The list below is in no particular order, but do not hesitate to see the importance of each of them as if they were all 1st on the list (however I must admit, that #1 is the most important in Alto's eyes).

Do you:

1. Read Alto's Hotfix/Patch Notes? (self plug there..)

I do my best to read through Blizzards posted notes for you and notate what are the major changes (and how they affect you!). But do not forget to check Battle.net to read through all of them, as I only mention gold related changes (I always post a quick-link at the bottom of my hotfix blogposts)

2. Get your enchants ready (or prepost) for the new gear that will be worn by the afforementioned guildies?

-Make sure you post multiples once again- for all available slots

3. Plan to hit farming spots to see if the changes have affected the areas?

-Many times, after Tuesday patches, Blizz will "adjust" many areas droprates

4. Plan to hit Node locations that you normally spend time at?

  - The same as above, Blizz enjoyes adding/changing times, nodes, drops within the nodes, etc.

5.Get all your available gems cut for raid night? (most "power" guilds raid Tuesday and Thursday nights)

-Make sure that you post a few of each- DPS, Tank, Ranged, Healing

5. Check your AH right before and as soon as you can after?

  - When you check before patch (server downtime), the auctions are still on realtime, i.e if an auction is ending during the patch, you will instant win (in other words, click the tab under "ending" so the 30 minute end "bids" show up first, and bid, bid, bid. Who knows, you might get lucky? =)
  - I also check first thing when I log in to see if there are any in the same situation, as the majority of folks know Tuesdays the servers aren't up till around noon, if not early afternoon. Take advantage of this.

6. Check your gear?

  - You are probably asking "why"? I have gotten in the habit of doing this for a few reasons. Remember when "The Shattering" hit? There were alot of green items that "turned" into blues. I had a post not too long ago when an item had a horrible dps rate, and if you had that equipped, you were in for a shock... It only takes a few seconds, just keep your eyes open.

7. Post your Glyphs?

- Do not forget about your Dust of Disappearance as well, as there are quite a few sales of dusts and glyphs throughout the week for the toons that are respeccing.

These are just a few of the things I utilize weekly, they are habit for me. I am sure there are others, and I will update this post if I think of others.

Are there any things that you do religiously on Tuedays in Wow? We would like to know! Don't hesitate to comment!

EDIT- There was a great point in comments by one of our daily readers, Brouck, " I list raid goodies (flasks, buff food) early".

For me, this has been forgotten since Cata started. I know what I am working on tonight.....getting my cooking maxed (as I haven't touched it since Wrath). Thanks Brouck!

Everyone's Cata Vacation is over....Get ready for the Weekend NOW!

Whats that? More screenies? Ok. Here's yesterdays "The Openings"

I am still selling ALOT of uncut gems, ores, herbs, runescrolls, glyphs, inks, you name it, they are selling. Remember, you do not need to spend every minute checking the AH, I do it one time in the morning, once at night. If available, I will post noonish (midday). So I only hit the AH three times/day. I do however scan each time, and check the postings of the trade everytime (for the main reason of knowing your market).I am currently averaging over 1K in active auctions at any one time.

Now that everyone is back to work/school/college/whatever it is they took a few days off for the Cataclysm release, now is your time to get your sales ready for the weekend....A few preps that I will be doing this week (in no particular order).

1. Get another toon to 85. I hope you set your alts in towns (or inns) to get rested time while you were working on your main(s).

2. Farm, Farm, Farm. It might just be me, but it seems that they added spawn nodes to alot of "old" content. Check your AH for herbs and ores (as I hope you already have been doing) to see what the prices are (some posts from the weekend warriors will still be up today) and then head over to good'ol thottbot or your favorite wowhead type loot engine to see where they spawn (if you already dont' know).

3. There will be great need for all new herbs and ore for a while still, so if you don't see profitable old world mats for sale, stick with the new content. By now, you should know that your time farming should be worth anywhere from 500g to 1K per hour. If you are not making that, then you need to read up on some of my old posts and put the ideas to work.

4. I will be farming herbs and buying all stacks of them I see in AH for 75g or less (profitability on the different new herbs are different, but I will not buy from AH unless I double my investment). Some of the easier farmed herbs (such as Cinderbloom) are going steady for 60-80g per stack, and milling them and selling the inks is profiting around 10-15g per Blackfallow, and 50-60g for Inferno inks, but once again, check your servers selling prices to set your own snatch prices. I average 4-5 blackfallow per stack, with 1-2 infernos as a "bonus". So thats 90ish on the low end per herb stack and almost 200g on the high end. See where I am going here? Profits...

5. Along with #4, One of my farming toons is both an herbie and miner, so to go with the herbs, I will be mining and hitting the AH. Currently, server prices from prospecting are averaging around 400g per stack of Elementium (due to Obsidium being way overpriced, and way overfarmed atm...), so in all reality, 200g per stack is obtainable to double profit, but I am buying them at 150 consistantly. On average, per stack I will receive 5-6 "green" gems, and 1-2 blues. With the greens selling for 40-115, and the blues selling for 50-80ish, thats a potential 250g on the low end, and if you get lucky, and proc extra blues, I have hit over 1K on one stack.

6. Make something. Anything.....This will include getting the new Runescrolls of Fortitude II made (even though there isn't alot of profit there, around 50g each, the same price as the inferno's- but they still sell, so no loss, no gain, other than you can only sell so many of the inks, this helps sales). Dont burn all your Inferno's, sell some as just the ink, then make a few scrolls as well. Never put all your eggs in one basket. The Adventurers Journals are selling steady as well, 40-60g each, but I don't see them lasting at that price long, but once again, the mats double profit for them, so until they drop to mat prices, I will be selling these.

Crusader Enchant Farming- Screenshot or it didn't happen......

As an update to a previous post on Crusader Enchant, here is a pic from 35 minutes farming (three "circuits") in Tyr's hand. If you have tried this area, then you know the Archmages are the only mobs that carry the chant, and they are easily picked out by the faint green glow from their staff, so if you just want to farm them, go right ahead. I recommend a full clear, as the respawns are random, so you have a better chance proccing more Archmages that way.

This afternoon, I will be farming this area once again, I am hoping to get a "rare" Halloween bag. Blizz states that they are dropping off 51-60 mobs, and a higher droprate for elites, which this area is full of (actually, they are only elite here). Holler in comments if you happen to get a drop here. Keep smiling!

So you like to stand out in a crowd? Screenshot or it didn't happen.....

So, you like to stand out in a crowd?

Now this isn't exactly one of my "usual" farm spots (due to the fact that it drops from "rare" mobs, and as you know, they have a random spawn- in this case, 4- 8 hours from what I can tell), but it is however a place I used to have one of my toons staged for the Orb of Deception drop (I cannot take credit for this one, one of my past guildies that told me about Tyr's told me about farming the "rare spawns" in the DM arena.)

Those that know of the Orb know a few things:

1. It truely has no use other than a pure vanity item. Basically, you can change to a member of the opposing faction whilst using it. So if you wanna run around Org as a human (the procs change whether you are an undead, or tauren, or etc....) be my guest. The main thing with vanity items is that there are so many people out there with so much gold they have literally nothing to spend on, they are (and have been for a few years now) still snatching this little trinket up.

2. They drop off "rare" mobs: Musgog, Skar, and Gazza. In my experience, Skarr and lady Gazza (just seeing if you were paying attention...) spawn here at a higher rate than Musgog. Back in the day, when Musgog spawned, he also procced Black Lotus, so if you are an herbie, make sure you utilize "picking" these little guys up.

3. Just remember that the prices on these little trinkets have a HUGE descrepancy- one week, you can get around 1K for it, next week, you can get 5.5k (true story, 1k was off the auction house, and the 5.5K was from a spam with a nice little story "unlimited faction trades" "be the life- or death- of your party" off trade chat- this was halloween last year, they might have thought is was an event drop...). Let it be known that this trinket will nab you at least 1K, so don't sell for anything less.

The good thing about watching over the arena is that most of the time, you end up with two random blues per mob (note the "per mob", they spawn in two to three at a time here) that sell for anywhere from 100-300g each. So it is definitely worth your time, and if you can get the spawn times on your server down, 5 minutes worth of work (i.e. log into "staged" toon, drop down in arena, smoke em, loot em, and you are good) can net you an ez 1k even if the Orb doesnt drop.

Farming Winterspring Recipies/Formulas for Profits

Here we go again, I am telling you about more of my "old school" farming habits. Yes, we are back on the Enchanting Formula.....this time Icy Chill. Yeah, this is one that used to be 10g (and if you got that back then, you were waaaay happy) but due to the economy, I am selling these for 300-450g depending, and there hasn't been any competition lately (for a month or so, I haven't seen anyone post but myself).

Remember that little known area of Winterspring? Yes you do, it's another area that has the cross faction auction house, good rep grinding, and winterspring has a few really nice areas for farming, even in today's world....ok, ok, I will get started:

1. When you come into town (everlook), make a sweep of the area. There are a few "white" recipies that you can pick up from the vendors inside (that you can sell for profits, albiet small, a couple gold apiece, but they add up) as well as some "rare" items (you know what I mean, that the vendor only has 1 of- masterwork target dummy, ice reflector, fused wiring, arcanite converter, etc.), so hit these up before you leave town, as you don't need much bag space for your farming that is coming up....

2. Head a bit southwest (to the frozen pond-called Lake Kel'Theril) and start farming on the Anguished Highbornes. These are the ghostly witches in and around the lake (don't forget to go up the mountains a bit on the west side of the mountains, and the island in the center). Thott lists these as a low drop rate (my average droprate is two cycles of the lake), but once again, like the crusader chant, you are getting hella runecloth, as well as a lucky world drop here and there (if you farm this area like I do, it's on my weekly hour farm list, you will see quite a bit of blues/purps after time).

3. Hit the AH after you get the formula, and cash in! (I keep an eye on both alliance and horde prices- part of my weekly farm check, so I am familiar which toon to farm/sell on-which will be an upcoming post on how I decide which toon to farm on).

4. Smile.

Skinners Paradise....

Ok, here's we go all. Got a hotspot for [almost] continuous farming (when you do a cycle of the area, respawns are already there) for borean leather (scraps on the "pups") and arctic fur, and for a TON of Chilled Meat and Rhino Meat. Why this spot you ask? Because there is NOONE ever there. No issues, ever. Got a few more spots, don't sweat it if you are asking "wtf? why waste time farming scraps?"

Here's another of my favorite spots, you might recognize this area from your quest here. Thats what makes this one a plus/minus.....you might have someone running through questing, please allow them to kill off the Reef Cows, or offer your help to them to finish their quest, that helps twofold, makes you feel good for helping, and it gets them out of the area quicker for you to continue your farm. Basicially, there are a few on each sidde of the island. Quick kills, good respawn rate (due to the cows are part of a quest) and great drop percentage.

And here is the top dog of all, my favorite spot. Not only after you do a full circuit of the area, they (the raptors) have already respawned, there is also the pet drop in the area. 500g freebie while you are farming? Can't beat it. Even with a stick. Ok, you can, but it will hurt it's feelings.

Yeah, there are some nice caves throughout Northrend for farming, there are alot of mammoths in many areas, but these are tried and true areas that I have had great luck with. You might find a few spots (especially near the Time Lost Proto Drake, but that's for another blog....)

Crusader Enchant Farming

So, I have been farming the crusader formula for years now, and it is always a great money machine when I am feeling broke. I am sure that you all remember the Scarlet Apprentices' up in the tower in plaguelands (if you dont, you must be "new" to the game, read on young grasshopper). Yeah, I too spent many a day (and /played) over there, and got a handful of the formula back in the day (and if you did too, congrats, for a .01% droprate, alot just gave up and paid the OUTRAGEOUS sum of 100g (you all know that the economy was MUCH different back then too) for this rare enchant.

Well, once TBC came out, and the 70 cap was there, I had a guildie show me about Tyr's Hand. 60 elites, and the mages down there were a whopping 1% droprate for the crusader chant (note I said the mages, not the others). Well, thats what this blog is talking about today. Yeah, waiting for instant Q's, BG's, or just want to make a quick buck (I can usually average 1-3 in an hour, 1K gold each on my server- although it may take a few days to sell) this is a great spot to pull it off, 5 minute clear of the area, 3 minute wait for respawns. =)

Once I get into Tyr's, (as horde, take the flightpath to light's hope chapel) go up the hill to the main castle. Once there, head inside, and just kill, kill, kill. A good thing about these elites, is they are on a 8 min timer (see, i have been here a few times...) so you have a few minutes after doing the route in the castle, and hit either side. Even though they are not all the Scarlet Archmages, they are random spawns, so clear coat everyone you see due to this. The good thing about this area (and these mobs) is that they also drop quite a few blues, epics, and plenty of greenies as well as runecloth (on almost every drop, 1-3 per mob).

Ok, so if you are reading this, then you wanna make some goldies for your toons. Take a run out to vanilla and make a few shakes. The good thing about vanilla farming is that not too many take the time to do it anymore (unless they are leveling a toon), so here is your supply versus demand.

Till next post, keep smiling and enjoy!
