POPSHOP RADIO 007

After emerging unscathed from an adult-sized weekend that saw us kicking off a new great American pastime with the sold out Stars + Stripe Festival, we're back in the game with a bit more color and a much deeper thirst for live music and free drinks. What better way to get back in the swing of living the NYC dream than another Popshop to shake up your daily routine? We've got a rogue's gallery of guaranteed firecrackers tonight: Spacecamp, K. Flay, and our beloved Neon Gold alumnus Penguin Prison. Furthermore, we've got Captain Cuts with all hands on decks for what's sounding like it could be one of the biggest DJ sets we've ever had, and did we mention that there's once again an OPEN BAR on Absolut from 8-9pm and a FREE KEG of Heineken from 2-3am? Anyone needing testament to the epic scale Popshop has grown to look further than the massive new Chiddy Bang video for "I Can't Stop", filmed amongst the late night crowd at Popshop 006 and edited to perfection by our friends at Jackpot In The West. We've said it once before and we'll stay it again, this is why you ALWAYS stay late night.

As is Popshop tradition, The Knocks - fresh off of signing a crispy record deal with Universal and a barnburner of a performance at Stars + Stripes - are back with another Popshop minimix, killing it yet again on this month's installment of Popshop Radio. This month's specially curated teaser features a summery mix of our special performers, spiked with some recent favorites we've been knocking about in the office soundsystem. Check the full tracklist and stream/download below, and let it serve as a reminder to cop your advance tickets HERE before they sell out. For a mere $10, there's lights, music, and some FREE surprise themed cocktails. We can't keep something this big a secret anymore, so get involved before it's too late.

STARS + STRIPES FESTIVAL 2011

Yes, you read the header correctly: a festival. Having spent the summers of our youth growing up on Martha's Vineyard, we've always dreamed of bringing a music festival to the island and next month we take one step closer to making that dream a reality. Enter Stars + Stripes Fest, a new annual "festival" we're bringing to Martha's Vineyard this July 4th weekend together with our friends at NUE Agency, featuring an all-star lineup of Neon Gold favorites in Savoir Adore, French Horn Rebellion, The Knocks and Chiddy Bang headlining. Sure, it's more of a mini-festival right now, but it's a jumping off point for what we hope to grow annually into a summer staple for New Englanders and - let's be real - that lineup is kind of insane.

Furthermore, it's all for a great cause, with 100% of the proceeds going to benefit the newly completed Martha's Vineyard YMCA, dedicated to providing a community center for the Island population and fostering the youth of Martha's Vineyard through social programs for all ages. The YMCA is an important year-round presence on an island that - despite it's reputation as an affluent vacation destination and tourist hotspot - remains one of the poorest counties in Massachusetts and much of the Atlantic Northeast, and with the proceeds raised by Stars + Stripes we hope to finally be able to give back to the community that gave us so much in our formative years.

It's all happening Saturday, July 2nd at Nectar's MV from 9pm until late, with advance tickets available now from EventBrite for $30 at the dedicated Stars + Stripes page HERE. Basically, it's going to be the best party we've ever thrown (need we remind you of the line up?), and those of you still looking for the perfect way to spend your July 4th weekend just had your weekend sorted in a big way. Set times and mp3s below, time to go large for America y'all.

LIKE FIRE AROUND THE BRIM.

Friday nights in NYC used to be all about The Knocks' Mr. Jpatt tearing up the decks at Antik, the highlight of which was always his immaculate blend of Passion Pit's "Sleepyhead" and The Jackson 5's "I Want You Back". Then when Xaphoon Jones moved to New York and witnessed the magic, he took it one step further and turned Jpatt's segue into a full length track, which he's been playing out around town for a minute now and finally today unveiled on his brand new mixtape Xaphoon Jones Volume 2. Basically, it's perfect. Grab it below and hit up Ill Roots for the whole tape, since it's kind of furiously brilliant.

NEON GOLD + THE KNOCKS HIT LONDON.

So it's been a long minute since we've been back to our second home across the pond, but we're pleased to announce we'll be making our triumphant return to London this week with our dudes The Knocks in tow. To celebrate, we're throwing down at XOYO next Wednesday the 10th with The Knocks debut London show, complete with our beloved Spark and the mesmerizing Entrepreneurs supporting. Doors are at 8pm with Entrepreneurs taking the stage shortly thereafter for a so-called karaoke set (ooooh) that will mark their first show ever. Rounding out the line up will be Chiddy Bang beatsmith Xaphoon Jones getting large in the DJ booth with us on the ones and twos all night long. The show is also FREE ENTRY, so come one come all and let's throw down in a big way. To mark the occasion we've got a fiery exclusive remix of the Knocks new single "Dancing With The DJ" courtesy of our dudes Xaphoon and Chiddy, who will also be hitting London this week to light up King's College this Saturday. So yeah, BIG WEEK.

KILLING ME.

We first featured Chiddy Bang with their amazing remix of MGMT's "Kids" last spring, and in the time since they've had a surprise Top Ten hit in the UK with that very track ("Opposite of Adults") released their debut mixtape The Swelly Express, and established themselves as a serious force to be reckoned with in the electro-hip hop scene. Now they're back with the follow up to The Swelly Express, titled Air Swell and comprised solely of tracks written on the duo's frequent transatlantic flights between the US and the UK. The lead off track is a remix of our very own Neon Gold homegirl Ellie Goulding (WHO BY THE WAY HAS A NUMBER ONE ALBUM IN THE UK RIGHT NOW), with beatsmith Xaphoon Jones taking her amazing "Under The Sheets" and synthing it out even harder than the Starsmith-produced original, before Chiddy hops on the mic and absolutely slays it on the verse. Dudes sent it over to us for the exclusive debut, so cop that shit below and get ready for Air Swell to takeover the internet when it drops after SXSW.

A RHYME AND A DREAM.

When we last checked in with Chiddy Bang, they were having one of the biggest coming out parties of the year with their massive remix of MGMT's "Kids" lighting up the blogs and turning all kinds of heads in the music industry. Now their back with a slightly refined line up and a fresh debut mixtape for the masses, The Swelly Express, sampling the likes of Passion Pit, Ratatat and Sufjan Stevens alongside older favorites like "Fresh Like Us" and "Kids". It's the Sufjan jam we're most smitten with though, as Chiddy beatsmith Xaphoon Jones takes "Chicago" and turns it on its head, reworking it into one of the years illest mixtape jams. "All Things Go" is available for individual download below, or you can cop the full mixtape here.

NEVER GROWING UP.

Just in time for summer, Chiddy Bang roll through with one of the first block party anthems of the season. Sampling one of the biggest hits of the blog era is a surefire way to get your name out there, but any attempts to pass Chiddy Bang's remix of "Kids" off as anything less than amazing fall flat once that chopped up synth sample drops and the beat takes off. The MGMT original was the soundtrack to thousands of late summer nights last year and spawned just as many remixes, but Chiddy Bang's effort sits head and shoulders above the rest and establishes them as ones to watch in the months to come. Only just wrapping up their first year of college in Philadelphia, the hip hop sensations-in-waiting already have a handful of sick tracks in their repertoire, and if they can follow up their ace remix work with some solid originals of their own they'll be a force to reckon with before the year is out. Recognize.
