Engineering Gold Making | Tranquil Mechanical Yeti

It's not a secret that companion pets are one of the best gold makers in the game, especially those that are a bit more rare, like forgotten pets that are created with engineering.

Can still be learned
Engineers with sufficient skill (250) can learn the Tranquil Mechanical Yeti schematic by completing a quest in Winterspring. You do not receive a schematic as a reward, so you can't sell it. Only your creations.

To start the quest chain, you must talk to Lilith the Lithe inside Everlook's auction house and follow the quest chain until you've accepted Seril's Boast quest.

After that you can begin the Are we there yeti? quest chain from Umi, which eventually leads to Yetiphobia. After it's completed, talk to Umi again to learn the schematic.

Tranquil Mechanical Yeti:
  • 1 x Cured Rugged Hide

  • 4 x Thorium Widget

  • 2 x Globe of Water

  • 2 x Truesilver Transformer

  • 1 x Gold Power Core

Raw materials:
  • 1 x Cured Rugged Hide

  • 12 x Thorium Bars

  • 4 x Runecloth

  • 2 x Globe of Water

  • 4 x Truesilver Bar

  • 4 x Elemental Earth

  • 2 x Elemental Air

  • 1 x Gold Bar

How valuable is it?
All companion pets are valuable and it's up to you and your competitors to decide the prices. Personally I sell yetis for about 2500-3000g and if someone else undercuts me a lot, I hold a pause and wait until the person has sold their yeti(s). 90% of the time they do not create any more and the market is again mine.. for a while.

Professional Gold Making | Arcanite Bars, Converters and Crystals

Engineers can create valuable items that are expensive, yet cheap to make if we take a look at the average prices between realms.

Here's a good example: Delicate Arcanite Converter.

Personally I haven't seen anyone selling these for months. These cost about 5g to make and can be sold even for 50-500g. If you want to sell them the fastest, I'd keep the price at around 150-200g each.

Alchemy is essential
The schematic cannot be learned from a trainer, but instead you must buy it from a vendor in Winterspring. If you don't have engineering, you can sell the schematic instead for about the same price as a converter goes.

Starting with materials:
These 2 are transmuted into an Arcanite Bar by Alchemists.

For the Delicate Arcanite Converter you need:
This is made by Engineers.

There's more profit to be made!
As you can see, buying Arcanite Bars from the AH is not always very wise, so you should look for an Alchemist who can create some for you.

Selling these along with the converters can make some nice gold often!

Arcane Crystals too expensive? Worry not!
If Arcane Crystals have crazy prices too, perhaps it would be more wise to go farming some of them instead! For this you need Mining. Arcane Crystals are found along with Thorium Ore, from Thorium nodes in high level vanilla zones.

This way you can make even more gold, perhaps thousands in a hour and more if you turn a few of them into Delicates, half into Arcanite Bars and sell rest as they are! Not to mention Thorium Bars can be expensive too, along with the other gems you can find..

TLDR

In conclusion, if items are too expensive:
- Mine Arcane Crystals
- Transmute most into Arcanite Bars
- Create Delicate Arcanite Converters
- Sell Arcane Crystals, Arcanite Bars and Delicate Arcanite Converters.

And if they are not expensive:
- Buy the materials
- Create and sell Delicate Arcanite Converters

The best engineering pet for gold making

There are a lot of pet collectors in the game, and some pets are more rare than others. For example, most engineers don't even know that you can make gold selling things to pet collectors so you often have little to no competition selling engineering pets. I've made the most gold selling Personal World Destroyer companion pets since I reached 475 engineering.

Goblin Engineering required
If you are a Gnomish Engineer, you have to create De-Weaponized Mechanical bunnies instead. Bunnies seem to have a higher average price, but I don't have gnomish engineering so I can't verify how well they sell. At least everyone seems to love mini fel reavers, so let's focus on those for the moment.

The materials are extremely cheap from my experience.

  • 10 x Obsidium Bar

  • 8 x Handful of Obsidium Bolts

  • 8 x Electrified Ether

Protip: Whatever you do, do not buy the Electrified Ethers from the Auction House. Create them yourself!

You can make 2-3 EEs from 2 x Volatile Air. If you have any leftover EEs, you can sell them for a lot of profit. Surprisingly many people buy them from the Auction House even when it's 400% cheaper to make them yourself/ask someone for a favor.

So how much should I ask for one?
Companion pets have crazy high price ranges, varying between 10-10000g so I can only tell you how much I've been selling these for. I usually have only one competitor, but I can still sell these for about 800-1000g each. When my nemesis takes a pause from the selling, I've been able to sell these for even 5000g each. I like it because the materials costs less than 100g for me.

To make even more profit, look for an engineer from the opposing specialization, and ask them to create some bunnies/fel reavers for you in exchange for your materials and a tip. But make sure the other engineer is not mass selling the same pets or you have too much competition.

More pets to come... Check back later!

Exploring Nagrand - 5000g in 60 minutes

There's some easy gold to be made in some of the Outland zones, especially for Engineers. Previous trick focused on Zangarmarsh, but this time I'll tell you how to make gold in Nagrand instead. Again,  mainly from it's Gas clouds. This zone also has treasure chests, so if you want to, you can make your own route by using the Routes addon with Gathermate2 and add chests to it aswell.

Clouds, Ore, Water and Flowers!
While in Nagrand, the best source for gold would be Windy Clouds, pools of Pure Water, Fel Iron/Adamantite/Khorium deposits, Treasure Chests and Felweed. That being said, if you have mining, engineering and fishing, you can make a killing!

Windy Clouds - Engineering
If you have engineering, you can gather motes from the clouds here. Each cloud contains 3-5 motes usually. To extract the motes from a cloud, you need a Zapthrottle Mote Extractor. This can be obtained from a level 62 quest in Zangarmarsh. The reward is a schematic though, so you'll have to craft it. Click here to see the faction specific quests.

It's often cheaper to buy the raw materials and craft the required items yourself, so here's the basic materials for the mote extractor:
  • 16 x Fel Iron Ore

  • 40 x Motes of Life

  • 1 Thorium Ore

  • 1 Arcane Crystal

  • 1 Ironweb Spider Silk

From the Windy Clouds alone I can get about 8-10 Primal Airs in 30 minutes. Most of the time these sell for 100-200g each. They seem to be more valuable than their watery counterparts usually.

Khorium Ore - Mining
Nagrand is nothing special when it comes to mining, but you may be lucky and run into Khorium deposits while flying around the zone. Each bar sells for even 150g, but most people don't know their value and will sell under that often. Fel Iron and Adamantite is also often valuable, and they should be mined if you are after Khorium. Khorium ore is rare and sometimes spawn instead of a Adamantite or Fel Iron deposit.

Pools of Pure Water - Fishing Pole Recommended!
There are a few Pools of Pure Water in Nagrand and if you have fishing, you should definitely check them out. More info about Pure Water fishing here: http://www.elsanglin.com/fishing_pure_water.html

Felweed - Herbalism
You may want to pick up herbs while flying around the zone. A stack of Felweed selling for 300g is not unheard of.

Treasure Chests
There's 2-4 Chests per zone usually. See the map below for their spawn locations. These level blues usually sell very slowly though, but still for a decent price. Don't hold your breath when selling them.

30 minutes of farming
The toon I did the farming with had engineering, mining and fishing. I made about 1200g from the Primals, 1000g from Khorium which I turned into Power Cores with Engineering (Sells for 500g each) and 300g from Treasure Chests. That's a total of 5000g if I would have farmed for a hour instead, assuming I would have found the same amount of goods again!

Windy Cloud and Treasure Chest spawn points
Keep in mind though, that none of the above items sell fast. For me it took 7 days to sell them all and I play on a high population realm. They are needed by some professions, but Auction House often has a void around these items, so they are expensive.

RNG and Price Difference
Sometimes you don't find a single Khorium Deposit, or alternatively Khorium Power Cores sell for only 100g and Primals 20g on your realm. Gold estimates are based on the prices on my main realm when I performed this method.

Exploring Zangarmarsh - 1650g in 30 minutes

There's some easy gold to be made in some of the Outland zones, especially for Engineers. This time I'll tell you how to make gold in Zangarmarsh, mainly from it's Swamp Gas clouds and while flying around the zone, why not loot the treasure chests you run into aswell!

Gathermate 2, Routes and NPCScan addons in action

Nothing to see here, it's just swamp gas!
Swamp Gas clouds contain motes of water. Usually 3-5 per cloud, and there's a lot of them out there! To extract the motes from a cloud, you need a Zapthrottle Mote Extractor. This can be obtained from a level 62 quest in Zangarmarsh. The reward is a schematic though, so you'll have to craft it. Click here to see the faction specific quests.

It's often more cheap to buy the raw materials and craft the required items yourself, so here's the basic materials for the mote extractor:
  • 16 x Fel Iron Ore
  • 40 x Motes of Life
  • 1 Thorium Ore
  • 1 Arcane Crystal
  • 1 Ironweb Spider Silk
You need mining, alchemy and engineering to put the above materials into use. If you don't have those, I'd ask around before buying expensive Arcanite Bars and Arcanite Converters from the AH.

While carrying the mote extractor, nearby gas clouds appear on the minimap, as if tracking them. This makes the farming even faster as you don't need to pay attention to the ground, just the minimap.

If you use gathermate and routes addons, you can create a nice route like on the picture above, and follow it easily again only by paying attention to the minimap. I made a route that includes treasure chests and swamp gas clouds. If you have mining or herbalism, you might want to include some of the valuable ores or herbs in the list.

Treasure Chests and Primals
If you are below level 70, you will also receive a nice exp boost per chest looted, as you may have noticed. Though not owning an epic flying mount cuts the gains notably. Personally I do all the farming which requires a flying mount on my paladin, just because of crusader aura.

While flying around the zone for 30 minutes I found the following:
  • 9 x Primal Water
  • 4 x Treasure Chests
Ever wondered what those
floating clouds were?

A Primal Water is very valuable since no one is selling these usually. You can ask whatever you want for one! Though I'd keep the price at around 150g each. They do not sell instantly though, as they aren't absolutely necessary for anything.

The blue equipment from chests sell for 60-200g usually, depending on how useful it is. These are a slow seller though, but not because of the three digit price, so no point reducing the price too much.

20k Gold in 7 days from Heirloom Enchants

Everyday someone purchases heirlooms, and most of the time, they want them enchanted too. Most of the weapon enchants are rare and people don't either have the materials, time or even the knowledge of them. This allows enchanters to make lots of profit when selling these. Often you have very little competition and with certain enchants you will be the only one selling them.

Don't forget to create eye-catching macros!
I have about 70 scrolls for sale 24/7, and almost half of them are heirloom enchants, rest are Cataclysm end game enchants and WOTLK end game enchants for level 60 and 70 PVPrs.

To make people buy my loom enchants faster, I've created a bunch of eye-catching macros that make people check their alts if their looms are enchanted. According to my calculations, the most I've made from scrolls is about 20k in 7 days. Some days I only get a few customers, some days so many they have to line up!

Don't forget to spice your advertising macros up with different symbols like {skull} and {star}, and convince people why they should be using the best enchants for their heirlooms. Give them some statistics. For example, let them know how much faster they will gain levels or pwn in PVP with the extra stats.

Just how valuable are the Heirloom Enchant Scrolls?
Most enchanters don't seem to understand the value of their scrolls. Seeing as their material costs are sometimes in the hundreds, they still keep listing their enchants for even less sometimes. It's often a good idea to buy these scrolls and relist them for even 2-3x higher prices. They will go! This affects other than heirloom enchants aswell.

If you want to be the only one selling certain enchants, try something else than the usual Crusader or Fiery Weapon. It's profitable, you get to choose your prices! c:

The prices you will see are from my personal experience. I've sold them for no less than the smaller price or not a copper higher than the higher price. Sometimes people are undercutting, but I just focus on other enchants or buy them out if it's profitable.

Protips:
  • You can often purchase level 53+ greenies and blues from the auction house and make even 130g profit from each by disenchanting them and putting them into use. Bountiful Bags guild perk is highly recommended!
  •  If you have spare honor, you can also buy level 55 ish PVP blue items and disenchant them! They cost only about 50 honor.

Prices may be different on your realm. They also seem to change quite a bit, depending on how many others are selling them aswell.

There are other enchants aswell, but I haven't found them to either sell fast enough or they haven't been as profitable.

If engineers want to make some profit aswell, they should be creating different scopes! A scope may sell for a lot if you're the only one selling it, which you usually will be! Don't ignore the lowbies, get some low level scope schematics aswell!

Making Boatloads of Gold from TBC Trade Goods: Part 1

If you haven't noticed, most TBC trade goods prices are even more expensive than their Cataclysm equivalents, making them extremely good for gold making. It's often wise to farm the reagents yourself, because some Primals cost even 200g each, like Air and Water. But if the reagents sell for more than what the product itself does, assuming you are not the only one selling it, it's often a better idea to sell the reagents instead.

    Alchemy and Primal Might
    Requires Alchemy (350)

The recipe is almost as valuable as the Primal Might itself, but at least its easily obtained so you can learn it yourself and also grab a few that you will resell. It's sold by 3 vendors, click here to see which one is closest to you.

    Reagents:
    Primal Earth
Best place to farm: Auction House

    Primal Water
Best place to farm: Terokkar Forest

    Primal Air
Best place to farm: Shadowmoon Valley

    Primal Fire
Best place to farm: Hellfire Peninsula

    Primal Mana
Best place to farm: Blade's Edge Mountains

    Farming Vs. Auction House

Some of the Primals are very cheap and should be bought from the AH, like Earth, Fire and Mana usually. See for yourself which one is profitable to buy instead of farm on your realm.

Motes of Water can also be fished from Pure Water pools in Throne of the Elements, Nagrand.

Remember that Throne of the Elements is a good choice for killing too, if you don't mind waiting for respawns.

Engineers can also farm motes by hunting Gas Clouds around Outland. Different clouds give different motes, like Zangarmarsh is for Water and Netherstorm for Mana. You need a Zapthrottle Mote Extractor to extract motes from the clouds.

Making use of the Transmutation Specialization
Alchemists can choose from three specializations: Elixir, Potion or Transmutation specialization. When a xmute alchemist creates Primal Mights, a proc might happen, giving them even 5 extra Primal Mights when crafting.

This might given you even 5k additional gold per proc if Mights sell for 1k on your realm. Average price I've seen is around 300-700g. Usually no one is selling these so I can choose any price I want!

    The item worth 9999g

There are numerous ways to make gold with engineering, such as creating pets, ranged weapons, scopes or even gnomish army knives.

The best one of them in my opinion is the highest level gun they can make, the Kickback 5000 which is learnable from trainers at skill level 525. I'm usually the only one selling it because most engineers seem to prefer it's almost equivalent, the Overpowered Chicken Splitter over it, which in fact is less superior due to the missing red socket and socket bonus. This means I can choose to sell it even for 20k if I like to try my luck, though I'm happy when it sells for 10k or even 5k.

    Kickback 5000 - Material costs

    3 x Truegold
    9 x Hardened Elementium Bar
    1 x Chaos Orb
And some junk you can buy from the vendors.

I've made at least 200k total from selling it alone in the past months. Everytime I advertise it in the trade channel at least one potential buyer whispers me. Then if you are silver-tongued, the deal is already finished, assuming they have the gold. All you have to do is convince them why it's the best weapon they can get without effort until raiding, and why it's worth the gold.

These days the mats costs rougly 2000g to make + one chaos orb. I usually sell it for 5000g-9999g depending on competition or if I sell it in /2 instead of AH, so I get atleast a 3k profit everytime. Most of the time even 8k! It sells fast considering the high price since it's the best ranged weapon available for newly dinged hunters. It's ilvl also makes it a great pre-raiding weapon in general.

If you want to sell it faster, it's a good idea to insert a Delicate Inferno Ruby into it's socket so it looks even better with the extra 40 agility and 10 from socket bonus. If you are selling it in the AH, don't bother with a scope, as enchants will not show up on items in the AH for some reason.

You should also advertise your guns in the trade chat to sell it even faster and to avoid crazy AH cuts and deposit fees. Just don't forget to make your message catchy! In this case you should create a Gnomish X-Ray Scope for it to make it even more good looking.

Remember that "WTS <item here>" alone won't catch as many eyes as "Are you a newly dinged hunter? Want to replace that crappy bow? Fully enchanted and socketed <Kickback 5000 link here> will last until you finally get the bow from Atramedes! /w me and start raiding today!"

How to play the Auction House

Auction house can be very profitable if you have professions. I will now let you know how I've been making almost 10k every day just by playing for a few hours, combining some methods I've written already. No boring grinding/flying needed! I play on a high population realm, so lower pop realms might have different prices.

Other professions have money makers also, but lets talk about that in a later post

Tip: It's wise to hold pauses sometimes with certain items so you won't flood the auction house with high priced items. Others will notice the high prices too and will join!

    The Route

    1. I usually start with Enchanting.

Everytime I visit the auction house, theres LOTS of Abyss Crystals for sale, usually for less than 5g each. What most enchanters forget is that they can shatter the crystals into something more valuable!

One Abyss Crystal shatters into up to 12 Infinite Dusts or 6 Cosmic Essences, which still sell for a lot more than 5g! The recipe is available from the enchant supplier npc in Dalaran.

    2. After that I use my alt's Mining for gold making.

Saronite and Cobalt Bars are in high demand by engineers and blacksmiths. Most miners simply don't bother smelting their ores but put em up for sale as they are instead, usually for as little as 15g a stack.
Saronites and Cobalt bars will both go for up to 90g a stack. A sweet spot I've noticed is around 75g a stack if I want to make them sell faster. If I see someone selling Saronite or Cobalt bars for less than 50g, I buy those aswell and relist them. They will be bought, usually within 24 hours!

After that I check Khorium ore and bar prices. Khorium bars will easily go for up to 150g each, so if someone is selling some for less than that, it's instant profit for me. Well, not so instant since not many need them. But they are low in supply so people are willing to pay for them. They still go within 48 hours everytime if you continue monopolizing them.

Note that if you're not the only one who has noticed this, its not wise to buy the 100g bars.

    3. Next up is Engineering

Since Khorium has silly prices for the moment because no one will simply not bother mining in outland, except when leveling their professions, also engineers will be able to cash in. Khorium Power Cores.
I've noticed a good price is around 500g, but if you have patience and all the Khoriums, they will go even for 1000g. It's wise to keep one or two of them in the AH at all times and you will probably be the only one doing so.

One Khorium Power Core needs 3x Khorium Bar and 1x Primal Fire, which often costs less than 50g to make.

    4. After engineering comes my Tailor's turn

Runecloth will often go for as little as 3g a stack, while Greater Eternal Essences will be worth almost 50g each and Illusion Dust stacks go for even more. It's wise to buy all cheap Runecloth and make Runecloth Headbands.

After that I send the Runecloth Headbands to my enchanter and disenchant them.

You can also make goods from Mageweave cloth, such as Black Mageweave Headband that will sometimes disenchant into Greater Nether Essences and Large Radiant Shards, which also are low in supply.

    5. Last, but not least is Jewelcrafting

This has been discussed in the guide before in greater detail and you should check the original post if you haven't yet. Simply put, buy different cheap ores from the auction house. Newest ores are the best bet, such as Obsidium and Elementium ore.

After that I prospect them and make amulets and rings from the gems. Here's a more precise list.
Blue gems -> Cut & Auction house
    Volatile Earth -> Auction house
    Zephyrite -> Cut & Vendor
    Nightstone -> Vendor
Jasper -> Jasper Ring & Disenchant
Hessonite -> Hessonite Band & Disenchant
Carnelian -> Carnelian Spikes & Disenchant
Alicite -> Alicite Pendant & Disenchant

After that I check the supply of enchanting scrolls and choose whether to make use of the acquired dust and essences or sell them as they are. I usually like to keep some of the jewelry in the AH also.
