Professional Gold Making | Arcanite Bars, Converters and Crystals

Engineers can create valuable items that are expensive, yet cheap to make if we take a look at the average prices between realms.

Here's a good example: Delicate Arcanite Converter.

Personally I haven't seen anyone selling these for months. These cost about 5g to make and can be sold even for 50-500g. If you want to sell them the fastest, I'd keep the price at around 150-200g each.

Alchemy is essential
The schematic cannot be learned from a trainer, but instead you must buy it from a vendor in Winterspring. If you don't have engineering, you can sell the schematic instead for about the same price as a converter goes.

Starting with materials:
These 2 are transmuted into an Arcanite Bar by Alchemists.

For the Delicate Arcanite Converter you need:
This is made by Engineers.

There's more profit to be made!
As you can see, buying Arcanite Bars from the AH is not always very wise, so you should look for an Alchemist who can create some for you.

Selling these along with the converters can make some nice gold often!

Arcane Crystals too expensive? Worry not!
If Arcane Crystals have crazy prices too, perhaps it would be more wise to go farming some of them instead! For this you need Mining. Arcane Crystals are found along with Thorium Ore, from Thorium nodes in high level vanilla zones.

This way you can make even more gold, perhaps thousands in a hour and more if you turn a few of them into Delicates, half into Arcanite Bars and sell rest as they are! Not to mention Thorium Bars can be expensive too, along with the other gems you can find..

TLDR

In conclusion, if items are too expensive:
- Mine Arcane Crystals
- Transmute most into Arcanite Bars
- Create Delicate Arcanite Converters
- Sell Arcane Crystals, Arcanite Bars and Delicate Arcanite Converters.

And if they are not expensive:
- Buy the materials
- Create and sell Delicate Arcanite Converters

Orb of Deception

There's lots of valuable items in the game. Most of the time people don't recognize their true potential and sell them for incredibly low prices. Orb of Deception is one of these.

World drop items - How to obtain?
Orb of Deception is a rare drop from mainly level 50+ chests and a few rare monsters. There is no guarantee you will find one even after a week's farming, but the chances are there. Personally I've found one from a rare monster that I had to kill 15+ times and 2 from treasure chests in level 50+ zones.

You may also find clueless people selling these Orbs for less than 1000g. I highly recommend to resell them for 10x more!

Treasure Chests

You have about a 1% chance to get one from a treasure chest in high level vanilla zones. For more info about treasure hunting, click on the Treasure Hunt category.

Optimal zones:
- Blasted Lands
- Silithus
- Swamp of Sorrows
- Un'goro Crater
- Winterspring
- Burning Steppes

Monsters

- Skarr the Broken in Feralas.  2% chance. 2-3h respawn timer.
- The Razza in Feralas. 2% chance. 2-3h respawn timer.

Many claim they no longer drop it but I can confirm that at least Skarr indeed does drop it. Also his updated loot table is based on his new levels and the Orb has made quite a few appearances. The other old arena rare, Razza, has also dropped it a few times but I haven't seen a drop personally yet. I can't see why they would have a different drop rate so I assume they are 1-2% ish both but the lack of data shows it as a smaller chance. They spawn next to each others so it won't take long to gank them both.

Also the end bosses in old raids (Not that there's many left with all the revamps going on) also have a 100% drop rate for a couple of blues, and Orb might just be one of them. For more info, check the dropped by list.

How valuable is valuable?
It really depends on your realm. If no one else is selling one, you have no limits. Personally I've sold one for 12k, 10k and 5k. Keep in mind though that it's a vanity item and no one "really" needs one.

Getting rich with Primal Might

This method has been mentioned before on this guide in a bigger TBC compilation, but I still receive a few questions or comments about Primals and Alchemists. Apparently the last post wasn't clear enough, so here's a refreshment.

I'm still often the only person on my realm selling these, even though they are needed by many people. One sells for even 800g if there is no one else selling and someone needs them desperately. There is definitely room for more Alchemists doing this!

The materials are often very expensive though, so sometimes it will be more profitable to sell them as they are. Lucky transmute procs are not guaranteed. Thankfully the materials are easy to obtain by farming them.

Profession needed: Alchemy

Primal Gold!
Before turning any primals into anything, you should check the material costs. They are TBC items so their prices vary between 20g-300g most of the time. If each of the lesser primals sell for 300g, you'll make more gold selling them instead. It would be wise to farm them yourself. One primal takes less than 3 minutes to obtain, so it won't take long to get them all.

If you don't know where's the best place to farm them, check the previous Primal Might post.

Primal Might has simple material requirements:
  • 1 x Primal Earth
  • 1 x Primal Water
  • 1 x Primal Mana
  • 1 x Primal Air
  • 1 x Primal Fire
Remember that transmutation alchemists can get lucky procs and get even 5 items from one transmute.

Finding some recipes
If you don't have the recipe for Primal Might, you can buy it from Shattrath. The recipe is BOE and sells for 300+g in the auction house. It has a short restock timer on the vendor, so it's wise to buy 2 and sell the other one in the Auction House! And while in Shattrath, why not buy the schematic for white smoke flare also. It too sells for 300g often!

If you like it when the 600g coins drop into your mailbox from a simple method like that, you should take a look at this older post focusing on reselling Outland recipes. In other words, How to turn 200g into 3300g

How to make gold without farming - For enchanters

If you're feeling lazy and heavenly shards are still expensive on your realm, you might want to check the AH for cheaper-than-a-heavenly blue quality items, as long as you have Enchanting available.

Getting rich by disenchanting stuff!
Some people don't have Enchanting or are not aware of the dust/shard/essence prices and have been selling Cataclysm blue items for crazy cheap recently. I've managed to snatch well over a hundred of them in a few days for as little as 30g each.

A heavenly shard still goes for even 120g during odd hours on my realm, so there's a possible profit of even 450g per item disenchanted, but that would require lucky procs from the guild perk bountiful bags.

Here's the most popular items people have been selling:

But there are hundreds more sold every day, so buy every level 82+ blue item that costs less than a heavenly shard. And make sure to be in a high level guild so you can get even 4 x Heavenly Shard per item disenchanted!

Heavenly shards not valuable on your realm?
There's lots of gold to be made by disenchanting older items also, but mainly from green quality items. To see an item's disenchant value in a tooltip, use an addon like Auctionator

Just select a category in the Auction House, like armor and sort the results from cheap to expensive. Then just mouseover cheap items and see their Disenchant value. If it's higher than the buyout price, buy it.

For example, if you paste this into the Auctionator's search field, it will list all armors from levels 1 to 85: Armor/1/85

I like this method mainly because it takes less than 5 minutes to do and requires no farming, yet it's extremely profitable. Though if I search for other than Cata items also, it takes a bit longer. I think I've made about 40k in 2 weeks just from disenchanting!

More preparation for patch 4.2

If you have an alchemist, it would be wise to keep some of your Truegold in bank until the patch hits; and people start obtaining the new profession recipes from Firelands that require them. Most of them require 8 x Truegold and what I've seen in the past months, there's never more than 10-20 Truegolds in the Auction House. Either people have already started hoarding them or there's just not enough supply.

This means at least my realm's AH will have little to no Truegolds for sale at some point during the next patch, at which point I will sell my cache. I have no idea how high their prices will go, but it's quite safe to say the price will be at least 2-3x higher in a week or two after the patch, at least on realms that have low supply to start with.

Currently the price has been bouncing from 300g to 700g; and some days even more!

Got extra gold to spend?
If you don't have an alchemist, or just want to make even more gold, this is a nice way to invest some gold aswell; and there won't be any losses for you even if truegold's value stays as it is.

See any cheap Truegold in the Auction House? Buy them! I have done so for a long while now, but before the announcement of patch 4.2 craftables I just sold them for 100-300g more than what I paid for them when the supply was low.

Currently I have only 30 ish stacks, but even it should create a nice profit, not that I'm stopping the hoarding just yet!

Truegold is not the only item that will be more valuable!
There are other trade goods aswell that will be needed for the shiny new equipment. These being every volatile and Hardened Elementium Bar in particular. Availability of Elementium Bars and Ore will affect the price though.

I'd hoard a few of these too if you see them going cheap, though these are more easily obtained so their prices won't raise too much. But the profit is there nonetheless! :)

Need more gold? Make "some" from Cataclysm epic gems

It's almost certain that after a patch or two, most likely patch 4.3, you can receive new epic gems by prospecting Pyrite Ore. There is also a super small chance (Considering titanium was at some point not prospectable) that a new ore or some other way to receive the gems will be introduced, but it's worth a small investment, let's say 5000g!

Pyrite's price has been steadily dropping and I've managed to snatch lots of them for even 20g/stack. Even now they give profit just from the green and blue gems, but once they start giving epics too, the profit is just ridiculous. If you're the first one selling a certain gem, you can even ask 1000g for one cut, and once others have the same design too, even 300g per gem profit is still likely.

How much gold is there to be made from Pyrite?
The chance to get a epic gem from 5 ores will most likely be around 27% like previously, so you will obtain loads of them if you start stockpiling today. But remember, they are months away most likely, so there is no hurry. Buy some when you see them cheap; and don't forget to create a guild and use the bigger bank!

I will create an another post regarding which designs to go for in order to get the maximum amount of gold, once the time has come.

During Wrath I almost reached gold cap from nearly half-way just from prospecting Wrath equals once the epic gems were available. I had my banks full of Tit ore!

And because you can't make lots of gold from Pyrite yet, I'll give 2 bonus tricks on how to make gold by prospecting!

Older Ores are still extremely valuable
Even if most don't need Wrath epic gems anymore, you can still make a huge profit off them. So while browsing for Pyrite Ore, search for Titanium Ore aswell while at it. You wouldn't believe how cheap it goes sometimes, and red gems are extremely valuable!

Other items to keep an eye on are TBC gems, prospected from Adamantite and Fel Iron Ore. Fel Iron Ore is often more expensive than Adamantite, so biggest profit comes from Adamantite in most cases.

The profit comes from uncut green gems which are needed by Jewelcrafters in order to level up. These can be sold for even 30g each if no one else is selling them (which usually is the case), meaning a prospected stack can give even 240g back! A stack of these ores cost about 20g on a good day; and sometimes a whopping 100g. Still, the profit is there!

If you choose to prospect Adamantite Ore, you will get Adamantite Powder too which I've sold for 70-150g each when no one else is selling. These too are the only way to level past a certain point, so people are ready to pay!

These ores may make you rich!
Here's a list of ores that have given me the best profit when prospected, so if you see some going cheap, try it out! You can give Copper Ore a try also, it's cheap but the gems aren't that valuable usually. And if no one is selling amulets and rings you could make from the gems, there's even larger profit to be made!

- Iron Ore
- Mithril Or
- Thorium Ore
- Fel Iron Ore
- Adamantite Ore
- Saronite Ore
- Titanium Ore
- Obsidium Ore
- Elementium Ore
- Pyrite Ore (Not yet!)

All the low level ores give green gems that are often valuable when sold as they are. There is no point asking for less than 25g for a Star Ruby or a Jade for example.

Check the gem availability before prospecting, just to be safe! And if people start undercutting you, don't worry. JCs need lots of them! But if the prices go too low, it's a good idea to buy the 1-12g gems and relist them for their proper price!

100g in 60 seconds!

I normally don't list minor gold making methods, but I think this deserves a mention because it requires almost no time at all to perform so it can be combined with other gold making tactics.

This is mainly for low level characters who can use all the gold they can get, but if you don't have epic flying, running around your city will take more than 60 seconds. Let's say 255 seconds! And the selling part will take even longer, but at least you have items worth 100g, or more depending on how many stacks you buy!

The trick is to make use of the lazy or clueless players again by reselling common trade goods, like Crystal Vials. There aren't many who do this so AH is often empty and you can even get a few gold pieces each if a rich or the average nub is in need of the said item.

Usually vendor sold trade goods costs no more than a few copper or silver so it's a nice, almost passive income if a low level player has some for sale 24/7. A good example is Crystal Vials. 20 costs 3s, and I've sold these in the AH for even 40g a stack!

Note that this is not something you should expect to make you rich. Most people know these can be bought from vendors for less, but still, everyday someone will buy some from the AH instead because they either CBA or have no clue how to google the item name and check where it comes from.

There's plenty more but these are the fast sellers from my experience, besides a few exceptions, like Engineer's Ink. If you know some other easy to obtain and resellable goodies, leave a comment :)

Prices

You will be undercutted often so you will change your prices almost daily, but if no one else is selling the items, feel free to test your limits and try even 50g a stack. If it doesn't sell, lower the price.

Crazy profits for Northrend miners

Miners should take advantage of the high Saronite and Cobalt prices! Some realms have crazy prices especially for cobalt bars. There's always too little supply for bars, yet they are desperately needed by engineers and blacksmiths. Today my favourite auction house had none for sale so I spent 60 minutes mining, gaining about 10 stacks total.

I also found a few stacks of Cobalt Ore in the auction house for about 40g a stack, so I bought and smelted them aswell. I've listed them 300g each stack and 4 of them have already sold! Should make the duration only 12 hours because it's common trade goods so people will  undercut you at some point.

There's 2 good places to farm in my opinion. Howling Fjord and Zul'drak. I tend to find the most from Howling Fjord, but many people say the opposing. Maybe it's the route you have to use.

I use the following path myself for Cobalt farming. You can create a path too with Routes and Gathermate2 addons. You should also add treasure chests and other points of interest to the route. They may contain something valuable! If you don't know how to setup a route, leave a comment and I will add a small how-to.

Saronite and Titanium Ore should be farmed in the high-end zones, like Icecrown Glacier or Storm peaks.

There's also some very good items you can create from Saronite and Cobalt that will give even more profit, but more on that later!

Farming "epic" greenies for fun and lots of gold!

Cataclysm greenies are still selling surpisingly well, so everytime you disenchant or vendor a level <-80 greenie, Deathwing kills a squirrel. A level 77 greenie with lots of useful different stats may sell for even 400g! Though personally I list all level 77-80 greenies for 250g ish, sells faster too. And theres new alts looking for "epic" gear every day!

If you want to farm these valuable items and you're skilled, level capped pet class or a tank, your best bet would be to solo farm Cata starter instances, like Blackrock Caverns. Elites have a higher chance of dropping useful equipment. However, there is no real level requirement for this method, as long as you can kill some Cata monsters.

All monsters have a low chance of dropping greenies, so it's up to you to choose where to farm. The lower level the zone, the lower level items you will find there. So, I'd suggest either of the Cataclysm starting zones.

If you have any level 80-84 toons, it's a good way to combine farming gold and leveling by grinding, or just do your regular questing but do NOT disenchant the loot. Even "of the whale" will get you at least 100g, if you're patient!

Personally I farm in Deepholm. The mobs are a bit higher level and will often drop level 80-> items which sell for a bit less, but the occasional level <- 80 items are pure gold.

Don't forget to drink a Potion of Treasure Finding before killing any monsters!

Alternatively, you can check AH if people are selling these greenies for less than 100g. Usually people don't know how valuable they are and list them for less than 40g. Since when do epic quality items go for that low prices? :o

Patience = Gold! Low level friendly!

Sometimes there's easy gold to be made if you take advantage of rich/inpatient/clueless people. You may have noticed that everyday someone lists extremely cheap items in the Auction House. Today I suggest you to buy those and relist them for, lets say.. 20x higher prices. Oh yes, they will sell!

2 days ago I spent 1000g buying cheap herbs, enchanting mats, ores, bars, primals and motes. Today almost all of them have sold  and they netted about 5k profit so far.

If you're poor, I wouldn't suggest you to buy 20g-> stacks. Instead, look for 2g stacks! Selling these will often take days.

Here's a list of herbs that you may see someone sell for just a few gold pieces, yet when a scribe or alchemist needs them to level their profession, they are ready to pay even 100g a stack (Except Silverleaf and Peacebloom), 150g in case of TBC herbs! You may want to test your limits too, my record is Nightmare Vine sold for 600g/stack!

Someone undercutting your prices? Worry not. If their prices are super cheap, buy them. If just a few gold pieces lower than you, I suggest you to be patient. Alchemists and scribes need a ton of herbs. They will buy yours too.

Classic flowers - Top price varies between 20g-100g/stack:
Mageroyal (You may want to wait until Children's Week!)
Bruiseweed
Arthas' Tears
Dreamfoil
Peacebloom
Briarthorn
Earthroot
Firebloom
Silverleaf
Liferoot
Khadgar's Whiskers
Kingsblood
Icecap
Goldthorn
Wild Steelbloom
Swiftthistle
Stranglekelp
Sungrass
Purple Lotus
Gromsblood

TBC flowers - May go for even 150g/stack:
Felweed
Dreaming Glory
Terocone
Ragveil
Nightmare Vine (Slow seller but great profit!)
Mana Thistle (Slow seller but great profit!)
Netherbloom (Slow seller but great profit!)

There may be more, but these are the ones that people will sell for ridiculously low prices usually and also will be sold fast. I wouldn't bother too much with WoTLK or Cata herbs, they are too easily available and people will be undercutting you a lot!

There are lots of other trade goods that are worth even more, so I will post them next.

So what to buy?

Personally I don't buy stuff that has many sellers and costs more than 20g a stack. However if there's only one seller and they have listed the goodies for 50g a stack, I will buy them if they are of a higher tier and in great demand.

If you're not yet using Auctioneer addon or something similar, don't wait any longer!

There may be easy gold in the Auction House

Some items are more rare than others, yet most don't know their real value and sell them dirt cheap. Here's a list of some VERY rare TBC patterns and schematics for professions that you should keep your eye out for. Easy gold to be made!

Most of these Sunwell drops have been seen in the AH for around 90-1500 gold usually, yet they can fetch even 10000 gold if you're patient. If you're using auctioneer, I'd suggest to add these to your snatch list asap!

How to play the Auction House

Auction house can be very profitable if you have professions. I will now let you know how I've been making almost 10k every day just by playing for a few hours, combining some methods I've written already. No boring grinding/flying needed! I play on a high population realm, so lower pop realms might have different prices.

Other professions have money makers also, but lets talk about that in a later post

Tip: It's wise to hold pauses sometimes with certain items so you won't flood the auction house with high priced items. Others will notice the high prices too and will join!

The Route

1. I usually start with Enchanting.

Everytime I visit the auction house, theres LOTS of Abyss Crystals for sale, usually for less than 5g each. What most enchanters forget is that they can shatter the crystals into something more valuable!

One Abyss Crystal shatters into up to 12 Infinite Dusts or 6 Cosmic Essences, which still sell for a lot more than 5g! The recipe is available from the enchant supplier npc in Dalaran.

2. After that I use my alt's Mining for gold making.

Saronite and Cobalt Bars are in high demand by engineers and blacksmiths. Most miners simply don't bother smelting their ores but put em up for sale as they are instead, usually for as little as 15g a stack.
Saronites and Cobalt bars will both go for up to 90g a stack. A sweet spot I've noticed is around 75g a stack if I want to make them sell faster. If I see someone selling Saronite or Cobalt bars for less than 50g, I buy those aswell and relist them. They will be bought, usually within 24 hours!

After that I check Khorium ore and bar prices. Khorium bars will easily go for up to 150g each, so if someone is selling some for less than that, it's instant profit for me. Well, not so instant since not many need them. But they are low in supply so people are willing to pay for them. They still go within 48 hours everytime if you continue monopolizing them.

Note that if you're not the only one who has noticed this, its not wise to buy the 100g bars.

3. Next up is Engineering

Since Khorium has silly prices for the moment because no one will simply not bother mining in outland, except when leveling their professions, also engineers will be able to cash in. Khorium Power Cores.
I've noticed a good price is around 500g, but if you have patience and all the Khoriums, they will go even for 1000g. It's wise to keep one or two of them in the AH at all times and you will probably be the only one doing so.

One Khorium Power Core needs 3x Khorium Bar and 1x Primal Fire, which often costs less than 50g to make.

4. After engineering comes my Tailor's turn

Runecloth will often go for as little as 3g a stack, while Greater Eternal Essences will be worth almost 50g each and Illusion Dust stacks go for even more. It's wise to buy all cheap Runecloth and make Runecloth Headbands.

After that I send the Runecloth Headbands to my enchanter and disenchant them.

You can also make goods from Mageweave cloth, such as Black Mageweave Headband that will sometimes disenchant into Greater Nether Essences and Large Radiant Shards, which also are low in supply.

5. Last, but not least is Jewelcrafting

This has been discussed in the guide before in greater detail and you should check the original post if you haven't yet. Simply put, buy different cheap ores from the auction house. Newest ores are the best bet, such as Obsidium and Elementium ore.

After that I prospect them and make amulets and rings from the gems. Here's a more precise list.
Blue gems -> Cut & Auction house
Volatile Earth -> Auction house
Zephyrite -> Cut & Vendor
Nightstone -> Vendor
Jasper -> Jasper Ring & Disenchant
Hessonite -> Hessonite Band & Disenchant
Carnelian -> Carnelian Spikes & Disenchant
Alicite -> Alicite Pendant & Disenchant

After that I check the supply of enchanting scrolls and choose whether to make use of the acquired dust and essences or sell them as they are. I usually like to keep some of the jewelry in the AH also.

Insane profits from prospecting! Guide to jewelcrafting

Requirements: Jewelcrafting, Enchanting
Recommendation: Mining

Here's a quick jewelry crafting guide. This may be the most well known way to make gold with Jewelcrafting, but it doesn't make it any less effective. I will however add some tricks that I haven't seen others do yet that can even double your profit!

This works with almost all ores, but in this guide I will focus on Obsidium ore. You are going after green gems and Obsidium ore gives more of them than Elementium Ore.

1. Either mine some Obsidium ore or buy some from the Auction House
2. Prospect them
3. Click on the below image or read on

wow gold

Now you will have a bunch of different gems and are gonna turn them into rings and amulets. Here's what I've found to be the most worthwhile thing to do with them.

Equipment with "less useless" stats, such as of the Whale, of the Soldier, of the Invoker or any other item with less than 4 different stats on it:

Nightstone >> AH during proper JC daily <OR> Nightstone Choker >> Disenchant
Hessonite >> Hessonite Band >> Disenchant
Alicite >> Alicite Band >> Disenchant
Jasper >> Jasper Ring >> Disenchant

Equipment with useful stats, like of the Fireflash, of the Earthbreaker or any other item with 4 different stats on it. Includes rare BLUE items and GREEN uncommon items:

Nightstone >> AH during proper JC daily <OR> Nightstone Choker >> Auction House
Hessonite >> Hessonite Band >> Auction House
Alicite >> Alicite Band >> Auction House
Jasper >> Jasper Ring >> Auction House

Other gems:

Zephyrites >> AH during proper JC daily <OR> Solid Zephyrite >> Vendor
Carnelian >> Carnelian Spikes >> Disenchant
All blue gems >> Cut <OR> Auction house >> Auction House

When creating rare gems, focus on the most useful stats only. These are Strength, Agility and Intellect for example.

Prices

Surpisingly few Jewelcrafters are selling their rings and amulets, or then they just use so low prices they will go instantly. I've found out you can ask for even a few hundred gold from a single green quality ring with useful stats (4 different stats)  on it, unless people are undercutting you. At least on my realm it seems I'm the only one selling rings and necklaces with useful stats on them, so I can pretty much choose the price.

I generally list my useful green rings and necklaces for 200g and blue ones for 300g, and they are bought within 48 hours everytime. Just don't try it with useless rings, like of the Whale. ;)

Enchanting scrolls

You should also check if you can make enchants that will sell for more than the materials you obtained. Chest enchant for +15 stats sell very good for example.
