Reader Question- Is Crafted PvP Gear Dead in 4.2?

Hey Folks!

I thought I would "calm the storm" of a valuable market in Cata. One of my readers, Riffraph, noted that he has made a ton of bank from crafting PvP gear, and is worried about losing his "niche" market on his server with 4.2 and the better ilvl gear hitting the shelves.....tis true, that will change, but in a good way.

Without knowing what "set" he was working with, I know alot of folks that have made quite a bit of coin from them (or what is considered the PvP sets); Bloodied Pyrium, the Ornate Pyrium, Bloodied Dragonscale, Wyrmhide, Fireweave, etc.

Fear not, folks, although there is a "slight" change....

Once you download Patch 4.2, you will see your skills updated. No, not the skills you use to kill your squirrels while farming, but your crafted gear. Lemme go to wowhead and take a slice of their pie to explain (mouse-over the items for the new ilvl). This little list is also helpful for you 'smithers that are wondering what the cost for the full set is too. =)

The crafted pvp gear changes are going from the old (bloodied) i339 to the new (bloodthirsty) i358. What we are seeing is that the Firelands Raid "dropped" recipes are to be i378, epic crafted weapons are i365, respectively. What does this mean? Well, you should be absolutely killing the market with the new crafts that "magically" appear in your window. A big thanks to Blizz on that one. So craft it up, get em on the AH asap! Remember, if you aren't first in the gold game, you are last. Get the sales, keep the market, and watch the gold fly in!

Yeah. I figured. You already had it planned out to do this. For those that hadn't, here's a little checklist for you (new patch, first day):

--------------------------------------------------------

1. Open all craftable windows- what I mean here is get on your toons, see what's new or what has changed (especially in this case, see above).

2. Check trainer for....well....training. You would be surprised what shows up even if you are prepared from patch notes, blogs, etc.

3. Reset all your Auctions. I am sure to hear some flak on this one, but you want the freshest and bestest prices going. Quick sales= Quick gold= Quick recrafts= More gold. Don't fall into the "I double the price of "x" material, because sooner or later the ones under me will sell". Nope. With all the information that is out there on gold making, you cant risk it. Sell 10 of X item in the first day for 200g profit? Or sell one of X item in 10 days with 200g profit (because you weren't pushing the market, and it stabilized when yours didn't sell).

4. If you hadn't already, do a mini stockpile of the mats you need- on the market(s)with zero competition. Anytime I put a craftable item in the AH, I usually set two up for the same price, then have one in stock in my bag. When one sells, repost, then rock up another piece for your bags. Constant flow= Constant gold.

5. Keep tabs on Wowhead, MMOChampion, and Blogroll- This is a biggie. Once again, there is a ton of information that is out there, and you can't do everything at once. That's where the help comes in. There are great resources out there, make sure and use them!

6. Check Farm locations, usually herb and ore spots. This is a biggie. Now we know there are an absolute ton of dailies coming out, but if you go off the past information we have had, be it whiptail spawn-rates, ZG epics, etc, patches bring gold for farmers. Once again, keep on a lookout for these locations.

--------------------------------------------------------

There it is. Getcha ready for the patch, get logged in, and make some gold! Look for posts this week on the new scoops in 4.2 as they come out.

Oh, and if you didn't figure the answer for the question.......Hell's No's! It's gonna be just as good of a seller as the "old" sets! Getta move on, little doggie!

Not the PTR Already....4.2.0 Profession Changes

So here's the latest and greatest information pertaining to the updated (although PTR info) professions. Wowhead has the goods if you want to get a bit farther into what you can make and what the current materials are. Just be aware that there will be changes, but this at least gives you a good start on what to stockpile (if you aren't already).

As you can see, Bloodthirsty is the "generic" name given to EVERY SINGLE ONE of the new designs (or revamped), and knowing Blizz, it will be special....suuuuure.

*Edit- Brian stated in comments that these are all available from the vendors using honor points. What is changing is that they will become craftable in 4.2.0 as well as go from a i352 to a i358 and drop the "gladiator" from the title.

Here is an example of the stats, and as you can see, they are currently sitting at i358, which probably won't move much, so we at least can figure something is in stone. As of right now, it seems that the mats are the near to the same as the current craftables....which in other words just means profit, profit, profit for those that make them.

Now some folks are already predicting that the recipies will only be drops from raids/etc in Firelands, but I am not a believer of this. These will be added to the trainers like every other "mass" set of gear that is out there. No reason for blizzard to drop blue recipies for a whole "tier" of gear in instances, so if you are the stockpiling type, and you have a "crafting" profession, getcha mats ready for when 4.2.0 goes live.

Thanks to HWoodlockheart on Twitter, as Kaliope has a similar post as seen on PTR- Kaliope, fix your RSS so I can add you to my blogroll! Jeez!

Tailors: Sell those shirts and make gold

Sometime ago I was looking to buy a shirt for my new alt but there were no cool colors available in the AH, so that made me create some shirts with my tailor instead, and sell them for a nice pile of gold. What I've noticed people are ready to pay even 100g for a shirt and a lot more if it's a bit more uncommon, like black shirts or those obtainable from a pattern. Do some reasearch on your realm and see what shirts you could sell exclusively, so you get to choose the prices.

Shirts are usually extremely cheap to make too, and most of the patterns are obtainable from a trainer or a vendor. I'll list the ones that sell within 48 hours, on a high pop realm at least.

Tip: Most people have no idea how valuable some patterns are, so it's likely there's a uncommon (green) or a rare (blue) shirt pattern available in the auction house for less than 10g, even now!

How to play the Auction House

Auction house can be very profitable if you have professions. I will now let you know how I've been making almost 10k every day just by playing for a few hours, combining some methods I've written already. No boring grinding/flying needed! I play on a high population realm, so lower pop realms might have different prices.

Other professions have money makers also, but lets talk about that in a later post

Tip: It's wise to hold pauses sometimes with certain items so you won't flood the auction house with high priced items. Others will notice the high prices too and will join!

The Route

1. I usually start with Enchanting.

Everytime I visit the auction house, theres LOTS of Abyss Crystals for sale, usually for less than 5g each. What most enchanters forget is that they can shatter the crystals into something more valuable!

One Abyss Crystal shatters into up to 12 Infinite Dusts or 6 Cosmic Essences, which still sell for a lot more than 5g! The recipe is available from the enchant supplier npc in Dalaran.

2. After that I use my alt's Mining for gold making.

Saronite and Cobalt Bars are in high demand by engineers and blacksmiths. Most miners simply don't bother smelting their ores but put em up for sale as they are instead, usually for as little as 15g a stack.
Saronites and Cobalt bars will both go for up to 90g a stack. A sweet spot I've noticed is around 75g a stack if I want to make them sell faster. If I see someone selling Saronite or Cobalt bars for less than 50g, I buy those aswell and relist them. They will be bought, usually within 24 hours!

After that I check Khorium ore and bar prices. Khorium bars will easily go for up to 150g each, so if someone is selling some for less than that, it's instant profit for me. Well, not so instant since not many need them. But they are low in supply so people are willing to pay for them. They still go within 48 hours everytime if you continue monopolizing them.

Note that if you're not the only one who has noticed this, its not wise to buy the 100g bars.

3. Next up is Engineering

Since Khorium has silly prices for the moment because no one will simply not bother mining in outland, except when leveling their professions, also engineers will be able to cash in. Khorium Power Cores.
I've noticed a good price is around 500g, but if you have patience and all the Khoriums, they will go even for 1000g. It's wise to keep one or two of them in the AH at all times and you will probably be the only one doing so.

One Khorium Power Core needs 3x Khorium Bar and 1x Primal Fire, which often costs less than 50g to make.

4. After engineering comes my Tailor's turn

Runecloth will often go for as little as 3g a stack, while Greater Eternal Essences will be worth almost 50g each and Illusion Dust stacks go for even more. It's wise to buy all cheap Runecloth and make Runecloth Headbands.

After that I send the Runecloth Headbands to my enchanter and disenchant them.

You can also make goods from Mageweave cloth, such as Black Mageweave Headband that will sometimes disenchant into Greater Nether Essences and Large Radiant Shards, which also are low in supply.

5. Last, but not least is Jewelcrafting

This has been discussed in the guide before in greater detail and you should check the original post if you haven't yet. Simply put, buy different cheap ores from the auction house. Newest ores are the best bet, such as Obsidium and Elementium ore.

After that I prospect them and make amulets and rings from the gems. Here's a more precise list.
Blue gems -> Cut & Auction house
Volatile Earth -> Auction house
Zephyrite -> Cut & Vendor
Nightstone -> Vendor
Jasper -> Jasper Ring & Disenchant
Hessonite -> Hessonite Band & Disenchant
Carnelian -> Carnelian Spikes & Disenchant
Alicite -> Alicite Pendant & Disenchant

After that I check the supply of enchanting scrolls and choose whether to make use of the acquired dust and essences or sell them as they are. I usually like to keep some of the jewelry in the AH also.

Making use of the high Frostweave prices

I've noticed that Frostweave Cloth has risen in prices by about 1200% in the past weeks, sitting at about 50g/stack most of the time now. When there's less players online, I can easily get even 75g from one stack. Haven't gone above that yet, poor tailors! Just from a 30 min of farming I can usually find about 200-300 Frostweave cloth with tailoring.

The best place to farm Frostweave cloth is just north from Icecrown Citadel, at least for cloth users. You can find many groups of Converted Heroes here and everyone has a chance of dropping up to 4 Frostweave Cloth. They are immune to movement impairing effects, stuns and what not. They also slow you down so it will be hard to pull more than 3 packs at once.

Let's spice it up a bit!

Should a plate user want to farm, they will have a lot more fun doing this, since they can go to the Cathedral of Darkness instead, sitting next to Icecrown Citadel. Level 85 recommended, as they are all elites and if you pull one, 10 more will follow. They respawn super fast so you don't have to run around searching for next mobs.

Tip: I highly recommend tailoring profession for this one, especially if you're high enough to learn Northern cloth scavenging skill, which makes every humanoid drop more Frostweave cloth.
